"Ring, Ring"

Monday September 19, 2011

My day began about 6:15 AM, when I was awakened by the noise of rustling family members. I learned the details of a man’s suicide attempt from a family member talking on her cell phone two rows away.

We met with the surgeon again today. He said that you were in less pain (definitely good news), and that everything looked good. I called Stephanie Allison to come and sit with me. She showed up a few minutes after I got out of the shower. They really have a nice setup in this waiting area. We don’t have to worry about a thing. So, my day is marked by the 4 visiting times. I wait with great anticipation of the next time I get to be with you – to see your handsome face – to touch you – to simply be with you.

After our visit, where staff sergeant Corky reprimanded us for being 5 minutes over visiting time and you for talking to Tom on your cell phone, I went back down. Stephanie was writing in your journal. She finished and then I went home to get your nook. I took out the nearly dry clothes from the dryer, picked out clothes, grabbed my medicine and your computer bag, and headed straight back to the hospital.

Amanda brought us lunch from Panera – soup – exactly what I needed! Then it was time to visit with you again. Oh, My… How the time flies! The nurse made me so nervous at the end, I tripped over wires as I was leaving. Jeana Phillips had come by to see you during the visit and then we talked some. She said that Derek also sent his love (or maybe that was prayers). Then Michelle Qualls came and she shared her stories about the lady renting their house and about her mom. That kept me horrified and entertained the rest of the afternoon until your 4:30 visit.

It is always such a joy to see you for those precious minutes. DeJuan from work came by to visit. He took a couple of pictures of us together. You made a funny face in one, which made you have a big toothy grin in the next. That one is my favorite. Pastor Jimmy Jackson and Pastor Terry Herold came by to visit you during the 4:30 vist – they prayed with you. We sat you up in bed and set off the bed alarm. I did not know there was one! We were trying to lay you back down when the nurse came back, and that was the time I tripped over the wires getting out. Michelle stayed with me until 6:00 until Celine and Sophie got here. Julia had swung by Panera and she showed up with soup and salad. We visited for about an hour and a half.

Then it was almost time for our last visit of the day. Good News – you had talked to Blake – your night nurse, and I was able to give you a sponge bath. Yeah! That means more time, plus alone time with you. It was precious time spent. When I got back down here I prayed that you would sleep well my love. I returned phone calls and text messages. I started to write about today in here and then I settled down a little after 11:00 pm.

Tomorrow is surgery day, stay tuned!
