I slept really bad last night and everytime I woke up, I was thinking about you Dave my love! Michelle Qualls and Allison Huskey came a few minutes after 6 as promised. They got me Starbucks and kept me company. The doctor gave his report, your room is right by the door into the ICU. I could see the door to your room, yet was unable to take 5 steps and see your beautiful face. I asked the doctor if I would be able to see you before you went down for the procedure to see what was going on. He referred that question to the head nurse who does rounds with him. She said that they were prepping you, so no. I burst out in tears. I didn’t mean to, it just happened. She gave me a hug and let me go right back. So, there you were alive and well, but still in a lot of pain-oh it is so hard to see you like that. They let your mom and I go down to radiology where they were going to send a scope up an artery to look at your brain and see what’s going on. They called us back up when they were done and the doctor explained that the aneurysm had stopped bleeding on its own. He then shared that there was a 30% chance that it would rupture again. So he said that you needed to have brain surgery. They could not repair it with the coil method because of the location of the aneurysm. Then he went on to explain the surgery and the risks that go along with it. Scary stuff. But there is a 95% survival rate for the surgery. Those are good odds. I clarified that this was the best (only) course of action. He said yes. Then he told us that the surgery would be Tuesday around noon. Your response was classic Dave-To me you said, “Great, if the surgery is Tuesday, then you should be able to leave on Sunday and still go to New York.” I looked at you and said that I wasn’t going to New York. You said that there was no reason not to go, that I would have fun. I suggested that perhaps we talk about it later when the doctor was not there. After this visit, then we were able to see Dave during regular visiting hours which were 10:30; 1:30; 4:30; and 8:30 at night. We got permission for Dave to use the Cell phone in ICU and he called Tom to discuss the situation. I went home for a few minutes to get some stuff. Evelyn and I stayed the night in the ICU waiting room at Huntsville Hospital.
Still more to come…
