Allison and I have had some great vacations over the years. From our first weekend trek to Cincinnati, to the greats like Gatlinburg or New York. Whether we were relaxing on a beach in Florida or mesmerized by the lights of Broadway, we always seem to have fun when we vacation.
This years blowout was no exception. After a long summer last year being unemployed, I was definitely in need of a break. So many things have changed this year; new job, new city, Allison stopped working, new car, and the list could go on and on… Needless to say a lot has changed this year.
So what did we do?
We did what anyone with some common sense would do; we planned a whirl-wind trip around the world! Our journey began in Atlanta, GA and took many long hours till we arrived at our first step on vacation: Auckland, New Zealand. If you only ever get to visit one country outside the United States, you should absolutely make this your stop.
Auckland – The City of Sails
This was our first stop in an amazing journey through the southern wonderland of New Zealand. We arrived in Auckland in the mid-morning (09:30) local time. The first challenge was getting the hang of the motorways. In New Zealand, like many other countries, they drive on the left side of the road. At first glance it seems unnatural to get into the car on the right, but the driving was not really a big deal. It seemed to come quite naturally. What I did find a little disconcerting was walking on the sidewalk and watching everyone else drive on the left. That seemed really out of whack!
